Position Overview
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Intake Worker is responsible for supporting the daily operations of OVS programming including intake, the VQRP+, VSCP and VCARS programs. Funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program for students, the worker will be responsible for quality program and service delivery to clients and the community. The worker must adhere to applicable legislation, regulation, policies and procedures in accordance with MCCSS guidelines and policies of OVS.
As a small agency, OVS works as a collaborative team with shared caseload. The work environment is dynamic and fast paced applying an ARAO, victim-centered, trauma-informed and strengths-based approach to service provision. The Intake Worker will be called upon to offer support to the Program Coordinators or the Executive Director with specific clients or on special projects.
Duties:
- Ensure quality intervention with clients;
- Meet with clients to develop individual safety plans and/or assess VQRP+ eligibility;
- Carry out interventions of high-risk clients;
- Carry out and/or supervise intake of clients;
- Supervise students on an ongoing basis as needed;
- Liaise with community partner agencies on behalf of clients and OVS;
- Maintain assigned caseload according to the timelines and procedures established by Ottawa Victim Services;
- Prepare and maintain confidential case files and record interventions in the case management system;
- Complete paperwork as required by Ministry guidelines for various OVS programs;
- Prepare a range of correspondence, reports and forms related to client services and updates information;
- Provide support and assistance to VQRP, VSCP and VCARS coordinators as required.
Position Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in social services, counseling, social work or equivalent;
- Experience working with women who have experienced sexual or domestic violence;
- Knowledge of crisis response and intervention;
- Knowledge of services provided by community agencies to arrange appropriate referrals for clients, to foster co-operation in service provision, and to build effective partnerships and educational networks;
- Knowledge of Victim Crisis Assistance Ontario (Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services) mandate and programs;
- Knowledge of the Ontario Victim Bill of Rights;
- Sound judgment and professionalism;
- Basic computer skills to develop correspondence, reports and presentations
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality around all issues regarding clients, information shared in volunteer training/debriefing and information about the organization, volunteers and staff members
- Ability to manage large caseload and multiple files simultaneously;
- Ability to provide trauma-informed service provision and care to clients/survivors;
- Good communication skills and strong interpersonal skills as well as the ability to maintain good working relationships with emergency services, volunteers and a broad range of social service providers.
- Problem solving skills to apply program policies, relevant legislation and guidelines;
- Ability to assess clients’ needs, risks and determine the level of crisis intervention/service needs to apply the best plan of action;
- Organizational and planning skills to manage a caseload independently, to prioritize work in an environment of demanding multiple deadlines,
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment;
- Prepare and deliver presentations to community partners, as required;
- Implementation of self-care practices to prevent vicarious trauma and burnout.
