Clients can access our services through community service agencies, the police, hospitals or self-referrals.<\/p>\n<p>We are currently seeking qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds who may speak languages in addition to English and\/or French. OVS welcomes and encourages applications from members of equity seeking groups, including but not limited to, candidates who are racialized, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Victim Quick Response Program+ (VQRP+) is an Ontario government program (administered via MCCSS\/Ministry of Attorney General) of last resort that\u00a0provides rapid, short-term financial assistance and supports to victims of violent crime, their families, and witnesses. It helps with immediate needs like emergency home safety, accommodation, funeral expenses, and counselling. Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Coordinator is adept at managing high volume and intensive caseloads including assessing client eligibility for VQRP+, and completing administrative documentation and justifications in relation to client applications. Applicant must demonstrate a high level of commitment and energy to oversee a complex and demanding program. The position requires excellent written communication and interpersonal skills in order to maintain good working relationships with Ministry staff, emergency services, volunteers and a broad range of social service providers. Strong written communication skills also required in order to advocates on clients\u2019 behalf in exceptional circumstances.<\/p>\n<h3>Duties &amp; Responsibilities<\/h3>\n<p>Under the direction of the Executive Director:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>manage and coordinate assigned caseload by: reviewing case files and referrals from police and community agencies; establishing and maintaining contact with clients from inception, assessing and evaluating client service needs, preparing and submitting required documents and providing appropriate services;<\/li>\n<li>act as liaison between clients and community agency personnel, government organizations and police to advocate for the needs\/interests of clients, to provide information on services and assistance, to improve clients understanding of and participation in the financial assistance, and to facilitate the provision of services to support clients individual needs;<\/li>\n<li>assess needs and abilities of clients to determine requirements and provide appropriate services;<\/li>\n<li>provide assistance to clients regarding purpose and intent of documentation;<\/li>\n<li>maintain communication and consultation networks with members of the Victim Services Sector and community agencies to promote the goals and objectives of VQRP and facilitate the provision of effective client services;<\/li>\n<li>participate in projects and committees as assigned, as a representative of VQRP, and contribute to the successful completion of projects, identify local community services or services gaps relevant for VQRP client support and contribute to the development of processes and procedures for community services;<\/li>\n<li>participate in public education activities (e.g., speaking engagements with stakeholder groups) to provide information on the role and mandate of VQRP and victims issues through both formal and informal presentations.<\/li>\n<li>maintain assigned caseload according to the timelines and procedures established by Ottawa Victim Services;<\/li>\n<li>prepare and maintain confidential case files and keep detailed case notes in Cudo;<\/li>\n<li>prepare a range of correspondence, reports and forms related to client services and updates information as required;<\/li>\n<li>compose routine correspondence, incident reports, expense claims, attendance and personnel material;<\/li>\n<li>supervise program staff, volunteers, students as needed;<\/li>\n<li>perform other duties as required or assigned by the Executive Director.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Education &amp; Qualifications<\/h2>\n<h3>Education<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Post-secondary education in social services, counselling, social work or related field;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to read and write in English;<\/li>\n<li>Provide a valid, current vulnerable sector criminal background check AND ability to successfully undergo and pass a comprehensive police background;<\/li>\n<li>Valid Driver\u2019s License and access to a vehicle, as on scene response may be required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Experience<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>2+ years experience in frontline social services or community-based organization(s) or transferable work experience<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Knowledge<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>knowledge of the victim services system, issues pertaining to victims of crime [specifically domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse, homicide, hate crime, etc.]; in order to present relevant information and justification to funder, assistance and guidance to clients to assist clients to make effective decisions, to encourage their participation in the recovery process;<\/li>\n<li>knowledge of crisis response and intervention, to respond appropriately to clients in crisis, who may have been traumatized by the crime;<\/li>\n<li>knowledge of services provided by community agencies to arrange appropriate referrals for clients, to foster co-operation in service provision, and to build effective partnerships and educational networks;<\/li>\n<li>knowledge of OVSS mandate and programs, Victim Bill of Rights, Victim Services policies and procedures to provide services to clients and to interact with stake holders;<\/li>\n<li>knowledge of computer software to develop correspondence, reports and presentations;<\/li>\n<li>knowledge of the practices and procedures of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Personal Privacy Act to provide non-confidential verbal and written information in response to verbal or written inquiries from clients, justice sector and service providers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Skills<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Crisis intervention, assessment, analytical, and problem-solving skills to determine client needs, assess risk, and implement appropriate plans of action in accordance with program policies, legislation, and guidelines<\/li>\n<li>Organizational and planning skills to manage a large caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet multiple deadlines independently<\/li>\n<li>Problem-solving skills to address client service issues and escalate complex matters to the Executive Director as needed<\/li>\n<li>Strong interpersonal skills, judgment, tact, and diplomacy to collaborate with community agencies, police services, and stakeholders while maintaining effective relationships<\/li>\n<li>Strong written communication and advocacy skills in order to explain circumstances of the crime and justifications for financial assistance through VQRP+<\/li>\n<li>Analytical and reasoning skills to recommend service improvements and support collaboration among service providers<\/li>\n<li>Strong verbal and consultation skills to provide clear, accurate information to clients<\/li>\n<li>Empathy, sound judgment, and advocacy skills to support individuals in crisis while maintaining confidentiality and appropriate disclosure practices<\/li>\n<li>Presentation skills to prepare reports, correspondence, case summaries, and deliver public-facing materials<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency with computer systems and technology<\/li>\n<li>Attention to detail and basic math skills required for VQRP+ invoices and monthly reporting on EXCEL spreadsheets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Assets:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Bilingualism;<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with vulnerable populations and minority groups;<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma;<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with the violence against women community, victims of violence and\/or violence against women issues;<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with case management systems;<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of the Ontario and Canadian Victims Bills of Rights;<\/li>\n<li>Victim Services policies and procedures to provide services to clients and to interact with stake holders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Work Environment<\/h3>\n<p>OVS is a charity whose activities and programs assist thousands of local residents on an annual basis. The successful candidate is someone who values collaboration and relationship-building in delivering services to victims and survivors of crime. This position is a 12-month contract for parental leave and provides a hybrid work situation, with two weeks paid holidays and five paid sick days.
